so halloween has come and gone and i saw some pretty outrageous costumes here but, being the inquisitive person that i am, i have a few lingering questions:

  1. Why is eyeliner scary? you know those people who dress up all goth-like and for them a thick slathering of eyeliner is a must. judging from my observations yesterday, a witch isn't a REAL witch without eyeliner... but why is it scary? maybe the process of applying it is the scary part. after all, who in their right mind would stick a pencil in their eye...
  2. isn't halloween supposed to be about dressing up as something scary? then why are there people dressing up as Playboy Bunnies? Or nurses. i mean, nothing really scary about that... unless a member of the male gender dressed up as a male nurse (complete with skimpy skirt, hairy legs and a name like Olga) or a Playboy bunny.. but then wouldn't they be called Playboy Hares? Or maybe Hairy Playboys.
  3. The whole concept of trick-or-treating defies the rule: Never take candy from strangers....
  4. I saw a few people dressed up as... office workers? i mean, they were wearing office shirts and working pants. and they were at a halloween party so they must have been in costume. so what's so scary about office workers? maybe it is the impending future of the shackles of office work that is scary. or maybe it was the fact that they were wearing eyeliner....
  5. asian people suck at halloween. seriously. they come up with the worst costumes (read: office workers). and then they go around saying "boo" and expect other people to be scared. i find the fact that asians make the best horror movies (the ring) yet suck at halloween extremely paradoxical. but then i also think J-Pop and K-Pop artists in publicity photos are more frightening than halloween asians.

Unacceptable

Three bodyguards of Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie have been released on bail in the western Indian city of Mumbai (Bombay).

They have been charged with "insult to religion and threatening to kill" after being involved in a scuffle with parents at a Mumbai school, police say.

Angry parents accused Jolie's bodyguards of pushing and insulting them when they came to collect their children from the school on Thursday.

"Children were waiting inside for us and, when they opened the gates, those men [bodyguards] pushed our ladies and children. They also said 'You bloody Indian'. This is just not done," said parent Mohammed Yusuf Patni.

Mr Patni said parents were upset that the school allowed filming while classes were being held inside.

"There were actors dressed in Pakistani policemen's uniforms. They were holding guns which scared the children," he said.

The lawyer for the bodyguards, Mahesh Jethmalani, told the BBC the bodyguards were released on bail of 25,000 rupees each ($555).

They have been told to report to the police every day for the next seven days.

"They've basically been charged with offences related to criminal intimidation," Mr Jethmalani said.

"These are all cases of your word against mine. Looking at the circumstances I doubt if all these words were uttered." -BBC World

I applaud Angelina Jolie for her humanitarian work, but causing havoc in a school with "guns" and frightening the children is just not acceptable. I also hate the fact that the lawyer claims that he "doubts if all these words were uttered". In my mind, there is no doubt. After all, Hollywood is made up of people who think that they are better than everyone else. They claim that they make movies that showcase the suffering of others. But what a grand way to showcase it: by making a hefty profit. After all, we all know that there are millions of homeless and poor in India, but I seriously doubt that Hollywood cares. They probably think that the poor means that they don't have to hire extras to "act" poor. Congratulations, Hollywood. You have achieved the economically impossible. You have given a chance for the poor and homeless to earn some money. For you.
